Law Society wary on shared parenting possibility
The Law Society’s family law committee has cautioned against introducing a legal presumption of shared parenting after divorce, following indications that the govt. may seek to modify the law. Children’s minister Tim Loughton has said that the govt is ‘looking closely in any respect the choices for promoting shared parenting through possible legislative and non-legislative means.’ He said: ‘Our vision is to determine that, under normal circumstances, a baby could have a relationship with both his or her parents, no matter their relationship with one another.’ read more … Read entire article »

Lord Falconer slams assisted dying law
A thinktank led by former Lord Chancellor Lord Falconer (pictured) has called the law on assisted dying ‘inadequate and incoherent’. In a report published today, the Commission on Assisted Dying concludes that the law is also reformed without endangering protections for vulnerable people. The report’s authors say it truly is possible to plot ‘a legal framework that might set out strictly defined circumstances wherein terminally ill people may be assisted to die, while providing upfront safeguards to offer protection to potentially vulnerable people’. read more … Read entire article »

Filming is not going to turn courts into theatre, pledges Clarke
Justice secretary Ken Clarke (pictured) has insisted he’ll not allow courts to become ‘theatre’ despite allowing cameras inside for the primary time. The government is planning to switch the law to take away the ban on cameras in court, starting with the Court of Appeal and expanding to the Crown court sooner or later.
